“A win for the community and a win for our family.”, is the way that Bosler homeowner Jan described the purchase, restoration and stewardship of the designated landmarked home in Northwest Denver.
The Bosler House is one of the first and finest of the stately homes to be built in North Denver. The house was constructed in 1875, the same year as the incorporation of the Town of Highlands, which originally governed this portion of Denver. It was built in the Italianate style by one of the Town’s Founders, Ambrose Bosler, a key player in the Denver Union Ice Companies.
However, after years of deliberate neglect by the former owner, the home’s future was in question.
Jan explained that when she and her husband saw the rain coming through the exposed portions of the roof, she understood what the community has been seeing for years. The slow destruction of a true architectural and historical gem.
But thanks to Steve, her husband, and Jan’s efforts the home is back to its former regal state. A contractor, Steve’s knowledge of the construction industry allowed them to exceed all expectations for the restoration completion. Their home recently hosted an open house and spiritual blessing by former Denver Auditor Dennis Galagher, among many others whom spoke and awed at the transformation
While the process of rebuilding has been instructional, Jan said that working with Historic Denver, Denver’s Landmark Office and the State Historical Society could not have been a better experience.
“Overall the process has been wonderful,” Jan said. “They have had expertise and have been both constructive and helpful. We want to do everything right by this house.”
Jan thanked the renaissance of Northwest Denver for creating the market conditions that allowed for the homes reconstruction. She said that there was almost no way this could have been done a decade ago. But it has been done, and the community is thrilled.
“Everyday people came up to us and said thank you and said we are so grateful to see the house being saved,” Jan said. Now she is just excited to start up her garden.
