One of the mainstays of strong and stable communities is direct access to high-quality educational institutions. While City Council has few touch points with our public school system, nonetheless, I have made it a priority to do what I can to strengthen our public schools at all levels, with a particular emphasis on North High School, an institution synonymous with all the neighborhoods that comprise Council District 1. I am not alone in this commitment, and we’ve just had an enormous and exciting success with a uniquely North Denver partnership.
The Denver District 1 Council Office partnered with Denver Police District 1 (DPD1) to improve street safety for northwest Denver. While our local police district has seen overall improvements in crime numbers and done great job leading Denver in community outreach and proactive policing, when it comes to speeding to some degree we all rely on licensed drivers to follow the rules of the road. While, the majority of drivers are doing good, we could do better, and to help Councilman Espinoza has donated $4,000 to DPD1 to purchase re-locatable speed signs to be used in District 1 locations where drivers could benefit by being alerted to their speed.
